RE3 CEO WINS ENVIRONMENTAL LEADER OF THE YEAR AWARD
18th September 2009
The prestigious eco-industry award was presented to the Armagh entrepreneur during Ireland’s ‘Environmental Oscars’, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, yesterday afternoon.
The judges selected Professor Boyd because of her dedication and commitment to environmental innovation in Ireland. They also praised Re3 for the advances the company had made during the construction of Re3’s revolutionary biomass production plant, in Limerick.
Professor Boyd said she was overwhelmed by the award. “This is a great honour for me and it recognises the effort and commitment of everyone in the Re3 Team,” she said. Leading New York Re3 investor, Brendan Hughes, who travelled to Belfast for the ceremony, said the award was an “outstanding personal achievement” for Professor Boyd and “demonstrated Ireland’s world-class capabilities in the development of new eco-technologies.”
Professor Boyd is now preparing to take the award to Limerick to celebrate Re3’s success there.
The Sustainable Ireland Awards promote environmental excellence and attract hundreds of entrants every year. Competitors for the much coveted awards range from green businesses to local authorities and schools. The award ceremony itself is the highlight in the Irish eco-industry calendar.
